Crumble

Overview
The Crumble is a low-cost, easy-to-use electronics controller. A few 'croc' leads and a USB cable are all you need to connect motors, LEDs and sensors and begin experimenting. No progamming experience is required as the free software is a graphical, drag-and-drop system inspired by MIT Scratch.

Key Features:
  • Robust
  • Low-cost
  • Easy to get started
  • Built-in motor drivers
  • Connects via USB
  • Can run on 3 AA batteries (4.5-5.5V)
  • Built in support for servos, distance sensors, Sparkles (full colour LEDs)
  • Fast connections can be made with crocodile clips; many croc-clip friendly components are available
  • More permanent connections can be made with solder, terminal blocks or conductive thread and standard components (switches, LEDs) can also be connected
Crumble Controller
The Crumble is an easy-to-use programmable controller. It can drive 2 motors forwards and backwards at variable speeds. It has 4 IO (Input/Output) pads which allow connections to switches, LDRs, low power LEDs and so on.

The Crumble has been designed to encourage tinkering,
using ‘croc leads’ for quick and simple connections. Pads allow terminal blocks to be fitted or a direct solder connection made, while the larger 4mm holes make an easy target for conductive thread and needle.

The Crumble software runs on PC, Mac and, in the near future, Linux (including the Raspberry Pi). Inspired by MIT Scratch, programs are simply built by snapping blocks together on screen. Sending a program to the Crumble is almost instant, allowing rapid experimentation.

The Crumble can be extend with digitally controlled full-colour LED, called Sparkles. Additionally, several expansions board (Crumbs) are also in the works.

Crumble Cub Robot
Crumble Cub Robot
Used as a drawing buggy, it’s a great introduction to controlling robots. Challenges can include drawing geometrical shapes, repeating patterns or get mathematical and work out the link between the program and what the buggy is doing. We highly recommend using the buggy with a white board marker on a surface that can be cleaned to allow for experimentation.

Using the line follower or ultrasonic module allows investigating and programming autonomous vehicles.

The kit includes:
  • Robot chassis with pen holder for narrow and broad markers
  • Crumble controller
  • Sparkle
  • USB lead
  • 2 Motors
  • 2 wheels with tyres
  • Line follower widget
  • Ultrasonic distance sensor
  • Croc leads
  • AA Battery box

The 3D printed chassis of the robot (designed by UKSTEM) is clip and slot together with an estimated build time of 10 minutes.
