During installation of SolidWorks, the logs show the error "ErrorCode:2902 Message:Error 2902. Operation ixoShortcutPropertyCreate called out of sequence."


This issue can occur when SolidWorks does not have permission to install to folders during installation. The most likely folders are:

• Not having permissions to create the desktop icons in the appropriate folders. To resolve browse to “C:\Users\Public” turn on viewing hidden folders (View > Hidden items), then right-click on the folder “Public Desktop”, select “Properties”, go to the “Security” tab and make sure there is a group called “SYSTEM” with “Full control” (if not, then add it). Don’t forget to turn off viewing hidden folders when you are done. (SYSTEM having Full control of this folderis the default situation on a Windows installation.)
  
  
• Not having permissions to create the start menu icons in the appropriate folders. To resolve browse to “C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu”, then right-click on the folder “Programs”, select “Properties”, go to the “Security” tab and make sure there is a group called “SYSTEM” with “Full control” (if not, then add it). (SYSTEM having Full control of this folder is the default situation on a Windows installation.)

Please check these permissions first.

Failing this, another issue may be to do with:

• Having “Controlled folder access” set to on in the Windows Security app or enabled in Group Policy (there are several ways to disable this on the link below):
