The Formula 3D Print Challenge was launched in July 2015. The Challenge is for Year 8 students to Design and Print a Slot Car (think Scalextric) to race against other Schools on a huge 18m Digital Track (12 Cars on 4 lanes!). You can overtake and even do fuel management, taking on more ‘fuel’ from the pit lane… think motorsport with very small cars.
The idea is to get local businesses to sponsor a car with sponsorship money going towards 3D Printers for the School. At the same time it introduces CAD skills to Year 8 students in an exciting, challenging and fun way.
Two events have been run so far and the Challenge has been a huge success. The students and teachers all love it and 100% of schools want to take part again – they have been offered a choice of venues as they all vie to become the host school!
Events will be held this year in Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire with a max of 24 schools per event. All of last year’s schools want to compete again – they would like to offer you the chance to join them and hope you would like to as well.
Places are limited to just 24 schools in each area so (if interested) please don’t hang around, register your interest here and they will be in touch to explain more thoroughly.
Stop press! Every school taking part will receive an 8 week SOLIDWORKS CAD license from TechSoft for every student to use in school and at home FREE.
PLEASE NOTE ALREADY HAVING A 3D PRINTER IS NOT A PRE-REQUISITE - THIS EVENT IS DESIGNED TO HELP YOUR SCHOOL ACHIEVE THAT.
